Sleep Dentistry in Etobicoke
Royal York Dental offers sedation services for patients who have anxiety about their next dental appointments.
Are you afraid of the dentist? We can help.
If you're afraid of dentists, you're not alone. Fear is one of the biggest reason people avoid dentists. But dental care is necessary to prevent oral disease and the need for more complex treatments so it should never be avoided. If you feel nervous about visiting the dentist, we will help put you at ease so you can feel relaxed and comfortable when you visit us.
What is Sedation for Dentistry?
Sedation for dentistry is the use of medication to help ease anxiety, during and after dental treatment. It may be recommended for patients with high dental anxiety, extensive treatment needs, time constraints, and/or a severe gag reflex.

Sedation Dentistry in Etobicoke: Your Options
Oral Sedation
Oral medication can be easily administered in the form of liquid or pills. Oral sedatives can be taken the night before to help you sleep, and taken one hour before your appointment to help reduce anxiety during your treatment.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is an inhaled gas that is also available to anxious patients. Since each person is different, the gas levels can easily be adjusted to customize your appointment.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia causes a controlled state of unconsciousness and eliminates movement, awareness, and discomfort effectively leaving you "asleep" during an oral surgical procedure. The use of general anesthesia is determined on an individual basis and allows the surgeon to safely and efficiently perform complex or invasive treatments in one appointment.
While this type of sedation is commonly used for patients who experienced high dental anxiety or low pain tolerance, it is also used for patients who are medically compromised, have special healthcare requirements, or other circumstances.
uSleep Dentistry™
Patients who are in good general health may be appropriate candidates for sedation services.
Sedation options vary depending on your individual needs and the extent of dental work that needs to be done. Dr. Amato can help determine what sedation options will work best for your procedure.
